“The Connective Power of Place” is an illustrated account of a personal relationship with the Bayfield and Lake Superior region. Over the past 30 years, Don Albrecht has lived in, photographed, and thought about the place he calls home. His photographs are meant to illuminate the significance of place in his life. Don Albrecht’s personal work focuses on black and white art photographs of people using a toy camera as well as a medium format film camera. (Yes, he also makes photographs in living color with a digital camera, and used to shoot slides.) An assistant professor of art at Northland College, he received his MFA degree in Rockport, Maine, an M.A. from the University of Wisconsin, Superior, and a B.A. in Humanities from Michigan State University. He has had exhibitions throughout the region and also in Japan and Cuba and has lived in Bayfield for 34 years. As preparation for a new curriculum at Northland, Albrecht circumnavigated Lake Superior (by car) in 2006 and 2007.
